Roycroft Hand-Hammered Bookends

$395.00

These hand-hammered Roycroft bookends may be discreet in their profile, but their elegance is in their simplicity and their quality. The hand-hammered texture and simple sturdy shape are perfect for a craftsman style interior. Taking their namesake from a pair of 17th century London book printers, the Roycroft guild was founded in East Aurora, New York in 1895 during the Arts and Crafts movement by Elbert Hubbard. Hubbard was a leading figure of the movement and he and his acolytes pursued its ideals by creating a community of printers, furniture makers, metalsmiths, leather smiths, and bookbinders. Roycroft began manufacturing metal goods commercially in 1906 and ceased production by 1938. Roycroft pieces are known for high quality and craftsmanship as well as clever technique and design. The mark on this pair dates to circa 1920-1928.
